Getting to Yes / The Harvard Concept
The Book

In 1981 the two Harvard professors Roger Fisher and William Ury, working together with Bruce Patton, synthesized the findings of years of research on the topic of „Win-Win Negotiation“ in their book „Getting to Yes“ (In German: „Das Harvard-Konzept“).

This now classic work has been translated into more than thirty languages and is a standard reference text for academics and practitioners all over the world. It has proved its worth as a useful guide to conflict resolution in thousands of cases, ranging from international diplomacy to all facets of commercial negotiation and even to domestic and family disputes. Today the „Harvard Method“ has become the widely recognized moniker for a philosophy with countless adherents, all practitioners seeking to deal more effectively with conflicts of interest in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

In their truly seminal work, Roger Fisher and the Harvard Negotiation Project which he founded have established principles and developed methods which help not only to recognize the philosophical value of this approach but also enable us to apply the idea of „Win-Win“ negotiations effectively in practice.

Further information and commentary on this can be found in the Preface to the current German Edition of the Book „Das Harvard-Konzept“ written by our firm co-founder Ulrich Egger.

Over the years, many teachers, trainers, coaches, consultants and training institutions have further developed and applied the „Harvard Concept“ to their own work. The authors of the book support these efforts and contributions, provided that the Harvard name is not misused as a brand for commercial purposes. The only exception to this policy arises from the contractual relationship which the Harvard Negotiation Project maintains with EP+P. The rights and obligations outlined in this agreement especially regarding questions of branding are summarized in the short pdf Handout on this website.
